Welcome to House of Ishai. My name is Rabbi Ishai Mokano, and I am a certified Sofer STaM specializing in the writing, inspection, and restoration of Torah scrolls, tefillin, and mezuzot according to traditional halachic standards.
For me, this work is more than a profession—it’s a lifelong calling. Every Torah scroll I inspect, every mezuzah I examine, and every pair of tefillin I verify is approached with the same commitment to precision, reverence, and devotion that has guided Jewish scribes for generations.

My Journey to Becoming a Sofer STaM
I was born and raised in Israel and proudly live and work in the city of Ashdod.
My passion for creativity began at a young age. Throughout school, I was drawn to art and visual design, eventually completing advanced studies in Fine Arts. Those early years taught me patience, precision, and attention to detail—qualities that would later become essential in my work as a Sofer STaM.
During my years of study in Yeshiva, I felt a deep connection to the sacred tradition of Jewish scribal arts. As I considered my life’s work, I realized I could combine my artistic background with my love for Torah, creating a path that united creativity with holiness.
That calling led me to dedicate my life to the sacred craft of writing and caring for Torah scrolls, tefillin, and mezuzot.

Today, I am a certified Sofer STaM and examiner, holding recognized certifications from:

Before beginning the sacred work of writing, I immerse daily in the mikveh, honoring the spiritual preparation and reverence traditionally associated with this holy responsibility.
